What Is a Wet Belt?

Unlike a conventional timing belt, which operates outside the engine in a dry environment, a wet belt runs internally and is lubricated by the engine's oil.

This design helps reduce friction and improve efficiency. However, over time, the belt material can deteriorate, particularly where incorrect engine oil has been used, oil changes have been neglected or the belt has reached the end of its recommended service life.

As the belt deteriorates, particles of rubber and other material can circulate through the engine's lubrication system. These particles may accumulate around the oil pickup strainer, restricting oil flow and potentially causing serious engine damage.

In severe cases, a failing wet belt can lead to loss of oil pressure, timing failure or complete engine failure.
